As the title says, Panomundo – our documentary about the history of the steelpan in Trinidad & Tobago and its global influence – will hosts its Word Premiere in London in October. The location, time and date to be announced shortly!
Panomundo has taken us nearly three years to complete! The concept was developed in September 2011 and we began production in January 2012. Over this period, we have traveled to Canada, England, United States, Switzerland, Japan, Nigeria and, of course, Trinidad & Tobago, interviewing close to 200 people about the steelpan. We have seen people building pans, others tuning the instrument and heard historians and those who were there filling us in what took place in the 1940s and 50s! We have also seen steelpan competitions (Panorama) in those countries, as well as been a part of the formation of steelbands and autistic children playing the instrument! The more and more we uncovered, the better the information we have been able to provide for you in this documentary.
